CLEAR CREEK COUNTY - The 8th Annual Slacker Half Marathon/4-Mile Race returns June 27th. This is the highest half marathon in the country and the perfect race for both the serious runner and the novice runner. The term slacker is an oxymoron because if you can run a half marathon at 10,000 feet, you are definitely not a slacker!
This race is scheduled for anyone looking for a great run and begins at 8:00 a.m. It will be held in Clear Creek County Colorado, 40 minutes west of Denver in the Rocky Mountains. The races offered include: Half Marathon, 4-Mile, and Half Marathon Relay. This entails a 3 person relay where a physically challenged participant must complete the second section of the course which is approximately 4 miles of newly paved road. This year, they are opening the relay to anyone - just have 3 team members!
It will be $30/person for the half marathon relay and 4-mile and $40 for the half marathon - early registration discounts are available.
The Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay both start at Loveland Ski Area, where it is a stunning 10,630 feet in elevation and descends over 2200 feet in 13 miles down to Georgetown! The 4-Mile starts near the town of Silver Plume, at 9120 feet and descends over 500 feet in four miles to downtown Georgetown!
Three charities benefit from this event: Clear Creek Animal Shelter, Clear Creek Youth Services, and Mount Evans Hospice.
